"When ‘Fun Today’ is playing it makes me pick up my five month old, get in her face and dance. She screams in excitement.

At times throughout the day it pops into my head and again I can’t help myself but grab her, play and make her giggle.

If the rest of the CD is anything like ‘Fun Today’ my 5 month old will be getting loads more attention.”Tamsyn, Canberra, Australia

Up 470% in just 7 days! Thanks to my Super friends!

In my last blog posting I talked about getting by with a little help from my friends. There's Kate - my marketing guru who I met when she was 9 or so, and Ariel Hyatt (everyone's PR guru - or she should be). I've been following Ariel Hyatt's fab PR advice in her awesome book for indie musicans 'Music Success In Nine Weeks'. http://musicsuccessinnineweeks.com/

Kate suggested the 'Refer a Friend Contest' in the lead up to launching our debut album 'Tiny Little Fingers' for Ukulele Baby Music - fun interactive music for smart healthy happy babies!

The contest was launched Fri 13th to increase the members of my Facebook Group where I'll be promoting the music with updates etc.

Here's an update of what happened.

MEMBERS UKULELE BABY MUSIC GROUP
13.8.10 = 8 members 'Refer a Friend Contest' launched for Ukulele Baby Music Group
15.8.10 =15 members
16.8.10 = 16 members
17.8.10 = 19 members

Wednesday 18th was the mid point hump - I sent out a second email to the attendees updating them with the numbers so far and to wish them all the best for the rest of the week.

19.8.10 = 36 (after the second message to attendees).
19.8.10 I then sent a Facebook status update:

Amazing friends - have you seen our numbers? We've just doubled in the past 24 hours - jumped from 19 to 36!

20.8.10 = 44

With us being so close to 50 members I sent out another message to all my friends. Here's the third email:

SUBJECT: We're sooo close!

We're SOOO close to 50 members - which is amazing since we started with 8 members on 13 August. That's a 450% membership increasein 7 days! Whooohoo! Thanks to you.

Because we're only 6 members away from 50 I'm gonna extend it to Monday at 12 noon.

I feel so incredibly lucky to have Facebook friends like you supporting our little baby music product.

Thank you SO much. Good luck for the last home stretch. Yay!

See you Monday 23rd!

end of email.

... within TEN minutes of that email another TWO members joined.

20.8.10 = 46 at time of writing this blog.

Ariel is right - if you don't ask you don't receive. And what I love about my facebook friends is this...they LOVE to help! It's like they really believe in me and my music and they're right with me on all this. They're like real fans and supporters - we'll actually they are far more - they are like real friends helping out.

I can hardly wait to give my friends more giveaways, more chances to get free stuff and cool prizes.

Speaking of which... there is a free download of some super cute baby music waiting for you when you sign up to our newsletter list at www.ukulelebabymusic.com

Enjoy!

I love my friends!

Like Ringo Starr I'm getting by with a little help of my friends.

My friends are Ariel Hyatt PR for indie musicans guiding me in her fab book 'Music Success In Nine Weeks'. http://musicsuccessinnineweeks.com/

Then there's my home grown marketing guru first time Melbourne mummy I'll refer to as Kate.

It's funny how life turns out. The first time I met Kate my guru was when we were swimming at the green pool while on a summer holiday when she was around 9 years of age.

This chatty little girl, her mum and I became great friends - retaining our friendship over the decades. Kate is in her 30s now and she is on maternity leave as a marketing manager. My gain.

With Kate's help we mapped out a simple marketing campaign for Ukulele Baby Music.

We've identified that we're talking mostly to mums with bubs and these mums are on Facebook a lot. Kate suggested we do a 'Refer A Friend' contest for building my Facebook group ready for my CD launch. We even offered a cool little prize as incentive.

Within 1 minute of posting my Refer a Friend event I had 1 friend confirm they would attend. WOW! Within an hour it was FIVE! Whoohoo.

My friends were happy to get involved to help me build my group for my launch.

It's a super quick contest so if you want to be part of it click here: http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/event.php?eid=123221251059340

So the next time you meet a cute little 9 year old be really nice to them cos you never know - they could be your future marketing guru!

I'm speaking Spanish - and I don't know how

Check this out! This is what my twitter posted today.

Ho impostato un video di YouTube come preferito -- Butterfly Kisses http://youtu.be/mFwPIiDMsL4?a

What is amazing is that I don't speak Spanish at all. Well apart from 'Ole!' (I think that means Hey Hey!) and 'Churros' (see pic) my fave Spanish dessert which I love to order when I go to my fave Spanish restaurant El Bulli in Sydney - I enjoy ordering in my bestest Spanish tongue rolling accent. But that's it - I don't really know how to speak Spanish at all.

And that's why this twitter message is so amazing. Cos I didn't do it. It did! The 'IT' being Internet technology behind all the new gagetry at my fingertips.

All I did was make a little vid on my iphone, then upload to Youtube which I 'allowed' it to connect to my Twitter and Facebook and 'IT' did the rest. 'IT' posted out this message in English AND Spanish for me! Cool huh?! I love IT!

I'm constantly gobsmacked with IT. And now that I'm publishing vids from my phone and twittering in Spanish I'm SO appreciative
for all those geniuses behind all this IT, communication and interconnectivity helping me take my little baby songs to the world!

And I'm appreciative of someone else as well - to Ariel Hyatt for her very cool book on music marketing 'Music Success in Nine Weeks' which I'm using as my guiding light throught this maze of social networking for indie musians like me. http://musicsuccessinnineweeks.com/

I'm now starting to GET IT! that it may be a lot easier than I'd ever imagined to open up exciting new markets around the world for Ukulele Baby Music - beyond my little local community of friends, fans and followers in Sydney Australia.

Now that I'm twittering in Spanish who knows where this could all lead.
Ole! IT and Ole Ariel!

Have you heard? I'm giving away LOTS of free baby song downloads for Ukulele Baby Music so if you want one just join my newsletter list at www.ukulelebabymusic.com and it's yours.

My new black hat.

I'm usually wearing my music-maker hat. It's my favourite - it has a bright pink flower sticking out of the side and it's got a big orange ribbon. It really suits me and I love wearing it cos it makes me feel happy and creative - like an artist.

Now I'm wearing my brand new hat - my music marketing hat and it's business black with a plain white band and it's definitely not my favourite. I don't think it suits me at all. It's way too... too... businessey!

But I've put on my new black business hat especially to read Ariel Hyatt's aptly titled book on music marketing and PR 'Music Success in Nine Weeks' http://musicsuccessinnineweeks.blogspot.com/

Ariel is telling me how to go about marketing my music the right way so.....

In Chapter One Ariel starts me on the music marketing journey with a bit of road mapping, goal setting and focusing on the task ahead.

No brainer I think ...'my goal and focus is to make Ukulele Baby Music awesome and then get it into the hands of as many parents and care givers with babies as I can'.

But at the back of my mind as I'm writing my goal I'm thinking - how? There's only one of me and I'm just an indie music maker plus I'm the cook, shopper and cleaner at my place.

And here is where Ariel gives so That means using all the best social networking tools, blogs etc and get me as close to my audience as I can. FOCUS Areas.

So here I am reading Ariel's book and trying to get comfy in my new black hat. It feels a bit stiff and plasticky but I think I'll wear it in eventually. I've rolled up my pin-striped business sleeves and have got myself a cool website, a facebook fan page, a twitter, a couple of blogs - and I've even got a little help from my friends with babies doing 'road tests and reviews' which I'm posting on my website.

More reviews are welcome so if you have a lil bub in your life and you want to write a music review too it's easy. There's a free song download waiting for you when you join us at www.ukulelebabymusic.com.

I'd love to give away 25 free baby song downloads by the end of August so feel free to tell all your friends as well.

Looking forward to reading your reviews.

Fun interactive music for smart happy healthy babies and sounds like giggles and sunshine.

CDs vs Itunes

I'm asking facebook friends what they actually prefer as a format for listening to music.

CDs are ahead so far with a score of 12, versus Itunes etc music downloads at 4.

Mums on the run still prefer CDs to play music for their kids in the car, the nursery and the living room.

Artwork still has appeal.

What about you? Do you prefer CDs or Itunes?
